Is there not some missionary clause that says life will be easy if you go to the mission field?
Apparently not...
This is me broken down in the middle of the road. Yes, the middle of the road- see the cars driving by us in the background?
So, me+ driving stick shift+ left hand side of the road+ not knowing much about vehicles= disaster. Oops. In trying to get the gas tank door open I pushed all the buttons in the car- one of them being the switch labeled a. Geraldine and I had no idea what the button was for, but it had a gas station hose on it and appeared to have something to do with filling up. That wasn't the case. Another button opened the gas hatch and I promptly forgot about the little button I pushed.
It's kind of funny because as we were filling up Gerry and I were trying to figure out why there were two gas gages- one of them called sub and labeled b. Since that one didn't fill up with the gas (the one labeled c. did), I didn't worry about it. All of that not worrying got me into trouble. Did you know that a "normal" vehicle could have two gas tanks? Yeah, me either.
So, a. was the button that designated that I wanted to use the second or sub tank and b. indicates that the tank had no gas in it! Well, you learn something new every day. You may imagine that we didn't get very far- maybe a quarter of a kilometer before dying. Luckily another teammate, Keith, was able to come to our rescue just as the police arrived on the scene to tell us to use the warning triangles- which, incidentally, we never did find.
Unfortunately here ends my picture review, but you can imagine how comical it was when Keith hooked our vehicles up and had me tow the broken down car onto a side street... except that when the rope tugged and I thought it was taut it really came undone and a bunch of guys had to run to our rescue... Yeah. All that followed a successful morning when I drove all the way into town with the emergency brake on...
