No News... Is Good News?
Hello!
With all of life that has been going on it has just been recently that I've gotten around to posting Christmas pictures! Here at the Farm we've had three adoptions, one team of ten, a fair amount of rain (which means power outtages- which also means no water since we are on a pump system), one lightening strike (luckily no people were hurt), and some lovely holidays since I last wrote. I have attached my Dec/Jan update that I mailed out earlier this month in case you don't receive it.
I'm sure the one big thing you are hoping to hear is that I passed (and Susie) the exam. However, we checked twice this month (they did predict 4-6 weeks from Nov. 30) and now say maybe we should check back the end of this month... So, it'd be nice if no news is good news, but we aren't holding our breaths. God can do miracles- and it surely might take one.
Susie and I have been successfully teaching for three weeks now at Venter Church, Living Waters church school, and will be teaching every other week at Emmanuel Family Home (orphan home). We've begun at the beginning and have taught on nutrition, malnutrition, germ theory, and hand washing. It's great to have those moments when the light goes on and they get what we are trying to communicate.
When I was teaching on the Food Pyramid yesterday Venter seemed to be understanding as we talked about how food does different jobs, etc. Then I tried to get them to name the titles or the types of foods that do different jobs (for example: fruits and vegetables protect us from germs and colds or proteins make our muscles strong). I totally lost them. Grouping and thinking outside of the box is not taught in school here. I quickly backtracked to the food jobs and what foods do different jobs and how we would be lacking if we didn't eat a balanced diet- and they were tracking with me again for the rest of the lesson. Praise the Lord!
The neatest thing is that as I've been preparing lessons and teaching about nutrition in different locations, I've been getting more out of my spiritual analogy. I've been teaching that we need all Christians using their gifts in the body of Christ/the church to make it healthy, just like our bodies need all the food groups to be healthy. What has really gotten across to me is how important the body of Christ is to me. And not just one church as the body of Christ, but the WHOLE body around the world. I was really blessed last week to receive the last quarter of sermons from Highlands Community Church on cd in the mail. I was able to download them onto my ipod and listen to them as Susie and I trapse around the city on errands and ministry. For this to happen, Pastor Amandus (and other HCC pastors) had to preach the Word of God, the CDs had to be gathered and probably sat next to Dana and Nicole and Joelle in the International Outreach Office, Cathy Joss had to send them, and my family had to send an ipod for Christmas= healthy body of Christ working together. Isn't God good?
Well, I'm off. Thanks for tuning in to the latest edition. :)
Stephanie
P.S. Please pray as the last two adoptions (by the same couple) are still going through and they are having trouble with their exit out of the country. I'm sure they would appreciate your prayers! Steve and Janette with Gift and Precious

Thanks for the update - must be hard to wait on the test. Keep us posted on the Takatas. Glad to hear you have access to sermons - they've been good, yeah?
Best!
